Purpose
The Distinguished Member Service Award recognizes current or former members of the Society who have made distinguished contributions to the Society and/or the Canadian Journal of Higher Education (CJHE). This award will only be conferred once per lifetime. The recipient of the award will have their Society membership dues waived from that point forward, in perpetuity. They will also be presented a Certificate of Merit at the annual meeting in the year of the award.
Distinguished membership is a meaningful recognition, bestowed sparingly, and only to those persons who have made significant and substantial contributions to the Society and the study of higher education. (Distinguished membership does not recognize persons retiring from active service to the Society who perhaps may have earned “emeritus” rather than “distinguished” membership.)
Distinguished membership status shall be awarded for the lifetime* of the individual, with membership dues waived.
Criteria
Nominations will be judged according to the following qualifications:
- Membership in the Society for at least 7 of the last 10 years.
- Substantial contribution to the study of higher education over a long period of time as an influential scholar or practitioner.
- Substantial contribution to the activities of the Society and/or CJHE including, but not limited to the following: committees, adjudications, Board of Directors, CJHE Editorial Team, conference organization, and/or other associated events.
Nomination Procedure
Each submission must should include the following:
- Nomination Form;
- Nomination Letter (maximum 2 pages) introducing the candidate and providing a supporting rationale for the nomination.
- A curriculum vitae of the candidate; and
